Trouble Shooting Strategies for Novelists

Rosemont Writers’ Retreat at Rosemont College, Rosemont, PA

June 6 – 11, 2010

http://www.rosemont.edu/writers/

Bring your complete, in-progress, or long-abandoned novel to this weeklong workshop. We’ll tackle the mental blocks that keep us fixed instead of finished, and practice new strategies for planning, plotting, and pacing a novel-length work.

Writing for Young Adults

Saturday, April 24, 2010

12:00 – 3:30 p.m. (includes lunch)

237 Cayman Court

Wilmington, DE  19808

Contact Barbara Gray (graybeg@comcast.net) for more details and to register.

Writing successfully for young adults requires us to (temporarily!) inhabit our teenage selves, in order to understand and communicate an adolescent sensibility in our work.  In this workshop for beginning or experienced writers, we’ll briefly explore the YA category — in terms of subject matter and style — before we plunge in and begin to create.  Through writing exercises, we’ll generate plot ideas, learn to structure a short story to convey immediacy, and experiment with style and tone.  Come ready to write and to share, with paper and pen or a laptop computer.

  1. Elizabeth,
I’ll be joining your sessions on the novel at the Rosemont Writer’s Retreat. I’m looking forward to working on my third revision with you and the other participants. I’m in the MFA program in Creative Writing at Rosemont and have been working with Carla in her novel workshops.
    See you soon.
    MaryAnn Miller
